Homemade Chili with Kidney Beans

Ingredients

  • 280 mL (3/4 cup) of prepared Instant, Gluten-Free Culinary Tomato Base
  • 1 lb of lean ground beef
  • 1 big onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 250 mL (1 cup) of sliced mushrooms
  • 3 mL (1/2 tsp) of Mexican Booster Seasoning
  • 5 mL (1 tsp) of sugar
  • 1 can of 540 mL of kidney beans, rinced and drained
  • 3 mL (1/2 tsp) of cinnamon
  • 3 mL (1/2 tsp) of nutmeg
  • 3 mL (1/2 tsp) of thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, sauté meat, onions and garlic in oil over high heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Drain to remove excess fat.
  • Add the other ingredients except the kidney beans and mix well. Cover and simmer for almost 1 hour. Add the beans at the end of the cooking time.
  • Season and simmer for another 10 minutes. Serve hot.
